A Boy and his Munki
We met Chris Moore in July of 2014. Our bassist had disappeared three months prior, right before a record-release event, and though a good friend was able to sit in with us, we knew we needed a longer term solution.
After three months of putting feelers out, our manager-woman at the time mentioned, “Oh, I know somebody!” during a rehearsal session.
“When were you going to tell us?”
About a week later, Chris walked into our lives.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think I’ve used the name, “Chris”, in reference to this carbon-based person since 2014. I like giving people nicknames because I think it’s fun – though I suppose we can ask “The Pigman” if he thought the same way – and at the time I was watching reruns of Friends and hunting for a certain Jesus and Mary Chain album.
It worked out for me and my Munki.
Munk successfully redefined the role in two years of Blackstar-plus-Munki. A trained classical guitarist became an integral part of the group in such a short amount of time, and I continue to be amazed by it.
Munki had a hiatus for a time, but has been back with the team for a little while now, holding it down, stronger than ever. We co-wrote “Fade into the Disconnect”, played a bunch of shows, and have broken bread and shed tears together. I suspect we’ll have more amazing memories to make.
Thank you for that perfect day.
